Oregon and Southwest Washington Healthcare, Privacy and Security ForumWe would like to thank all of our colleagues and members who joined us for our October 2006 Forum either in Seattle, or in Portland with our partner, the Oregon and Southwest Washington Healthcare, Privacy and Security Forum. CHITA is pleased to be able to offer the following selection of presentations from the Forum:

NPI 101 – Rule & Requirement Overview, presented by Chris Apgar, president of Apgar & Associates, LLC and former HIPAA Compliance officer for Providence Health Plans in Oregon and SW Washington. Chris is a nationally recognized data security, privacy, transaction & code sets & HIPAA expert, a member of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Board of Directors, the HIPAA Compliance Insider Advisory Board, the Security Compliance Insider Advisory Board, the URAC Privacy Advisory Committee, and chairs the Oregon & SW Washington Healthcare, Privacy & Security Forum. He is also a member of the team working with the US Department of Health & Human Services to develop national privacy & security standards to assist in confidential and efficient electronic health record exchange. Mr. Apgar is a noted speaker and author in this field.

Planning Requirements for NPI, presented by Chris Apgar; Jim Fitzpatrick, facilitator for the Washington Healthcare Forum’s Administrative Simplification Effort; and Sally Klein, a Project Manager and Senior Consultant for FOX Systems, Inc. in Scottsdale, AZ, who has served as the HIPAA Project Manager for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
