CHITA Forum on Health Care Information in WA State

With the current work in our state around the Health Information Infrastructure and Advisory Board (HIIAB) and Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration Project (HISPC) CHITA welcomes the opportunity to inform and increase communication among the many parties involved in health information exchange in Washington State.

CHITA would like to thank all the attendees who joined us for our May 2007 CHITA Forum at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel to hear from national experts and representatives from Washington State on the plan to design and establish a competitive health record bank model, including featured speakers Kelly Cronin, Director, Office of Programs and Coordination, and Linda Kloss, CEO, of the American Health Information Management Association.

Kelly Cronin, Director of Programs and Coordination, Office of National Coordinator for Health Technology (ONCHIT), US Department Health and Human Services delivered a presentation on "Moving the National Health Information Technology Agenda Forward"
Linda Kloss, CEO and Executive Vice President, American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) delivered a presentation on "Health Information Exchange - Principles, Lessons and Challenges"
Dr. Joe Gifford, Chief Medical Officer, Regence BlueShield (Seattle) has put together an incomplete inventory of Washington State Health Information Technology projects

CHITA Forum, Session XIX

We would like to thank all of our colleagues and members who joined us for our October 2006 Forum either in Seattle, or in Portland with our partner, the Oregon and Southwest Washington Healthcare, Privacy and Security Forum. CHITA is pleased to be able to offer the following selection of presentations from the Forum:

NPI 101 – Rule & Requirement Overview, presented by Chris Apgar, president of Apgar & Associates, LLC and former HIPAA Compliance officer for Providence Health Plans in Oregon and SW Washington. Chris is a nationally recognized data security, privacy, transaction & code sets & HIPAA expert, a member of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Board of Directors, the HIPAA Compliance Insider Advisory Board, the Security Compliance Insider Advisory Board, the URAC Privacy Advisory Committee, and chairs the Oregon & SW Washington Healthcare, Privacy & Security Forum. He is also a member of the team working with the US Department of Health & Human Services to develop national privacy & security standards to assist in confidential and efficient electronic health record exchange. Mr. Apgar is a noted speaker and author in this field.

Planning Requirements for NPI, presented by Chris Apgar; Jim Fitzpatrick, facilitator for the Washington Healthcare Forum’s Administrative Simplification Effort; and Sally Klein, a Project Manager and Senior Consultant for FOX Systems, Inc. in Scottsdale, AZ, who has served as the HIPAA Project Manager for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
